I'm listening to the show right now, and they've just finished talking about a certain class of tautology: "It is what it is", "c'est la vie", "que será será" and so on. But it happens my best friend and I have compiled a few dozen like this; they look like tautologies, but aren't really. In addition to the above, here are a few:
A deal's a deal.
Business is business.
First things first.
He wants what he wants when he wants it.
"I yam what I yam, and that's all that I yam."
The law's the law.
When you're right, you're right.
When you gotta go, you gotta go.
And here's one I enjoy, for you Star-Trek-NG fans: Q: Worf, how can I convince you I'm mortal? Worf: Die.
There are more; in fact I just added "it is what it is" to my list. But they only look like tautologies; each says something in addition to the words. For instance this one from Bob Bridges' Advice to Children: The way to keep a secret is to keep it. I adapted that one from an older saying: The way to learn a language is to sit down and learn it.
