My dad had a similar statement as the caller's mother. When I would say "I see." He would respond, "says the blind man to the deaf man on the telephone". Just a funny bit I thought I'd share.

I picked up a similar one years ago: "I see said the blind man to the deaf man."

In the county seat, we used to have a panel van that drove around with painting on it that said, "A blind man is driving this truck."

Being young at the time, it took a few years to realize that he sold and installed window shades.

There used to be billboards all over the Phoenix area with pictures of cars and trucks of various colors, all labelled "A Brown Chevrolet". Locals got the joke immediately; those just arriving from out of town were puzzled until someone told them about the dealership, Brown Chevrolet.

Back when I was programming mainframes, this was referred to as "The Brown Book":
