My grandmother often used this expression (Pshaw) ... to denote a feeling similar to what one might express in saying "oh phooey". Do you know ... if this is a "word" with a particular "word"derivation or is it more a sort of phonetic spelling of an expletive sound....

The OED says the latter ("Imitative. Compare shoo int.1, shoo int.2, pah int., pish int., etc").
