Object of a suitor

Does anybody know what you would call the object of a suitor or a wooer? The words suitee and wooee obviously do not exist. The only answers I can come up with are "lady" and "suitress," however they're both dated but gender specific. Neither work if a woman or gay man is the suitor.

Perhaps it's time to bring back inamorato / inamorata.

Though absolutely beautiful words, they're gender specific 🙁

There's courting. There's suitor. Defendant?

Though, I must say, I love the words wooee for, oh, so many reasons.

I suppose if the situation continues someone might ultimately become a corespondent (note the single R).
