Misplaced Modifiers

How about a rogue's gallery of misplaced modifiers in the media? (Too easy a target?)

This just in, from the MetroWest Daily News (MA):

Four Boston-area residents were arrested Sunday after police said they stole a purse from a store worth more than many of the cars in the Natick Collection parking garages.

Nice one, dilettante! And now you've inspired me to start another thread in this same forum featuring a rogue's gallery of bad punctuation, as soon as I get this photo from my camera downloaded into my laptop and uploaded to the web. (Is there a one-word description of that process, I wonder?)

Hmmmmm, like "Xerox" and "Kleenex" becoming lower-case generics? Might work, Dan. (Although I think I prefer the sound of "to snapfish"!)

"Upload"?

Maybe we could google for the answer. I have to go now, my computer is microsofting.

A misplaced modifier that I heard on public radio maybe 10 years ago:

"Like many Jews, the book offended him deeply."

My aunt sent me a collection of headlines a while back, including these:

Killer Sentenced to Die for Second Time in 10 Years
Enraged Cow Injures Farmer With Ax
Miners Refuse to Work After Death
Two Sisters Reunited After 18 Years at Checkout Counter

From This is True, 2005-09-30: Terror Leader in Iraq Declares War on Tape -- AP headline

I still recall the example my high school English teacher gave us ...

Hanging on hooks in the barn, we found the shovels and rakes.
