I hate 'like' as slang, mainly because it's the one word I haven't been able to eliminate from my own 80's-influenced vocabulary. I always notice and I cringe inside when I hear it. I just heard an old podcast on RadioLab (Episode: Stochasticity, 2009) in which an 18-year-old British woman used it.
England is now patient one. Where will it spread to next?
