Listening to people complain about stylists using the term "product" makes me laugh. When I was younger, they asked you what you wanted for "fixative". Yuck, that makes "product" sound good.

Great point! But if it is anywhere around when I was younger, those fixatives would solidify your hair into a protective helmet. They were truly worthy of the name fixative. And when you used fixative, you knew exactly what to expect.

With product, I'm never really quite sure what will happen.

Only with this discussion have I discovered that fixative can mean various kinds of "products."   From commercials when I was growing up, I associate "fixative" with denture adhesive.
