It seems that the expression, "Break a leg," keeps coming up in the show and is one of the most perplexing sayings. The explanation is obvious. If you don't break your leg you can't go to the cast party. Sorry Grant.

Obvious to whom? That interpretation of the saying is a post hoc analysis unsupported by the historical evidence.
