Boy, is my job hard ...

I am amazed at the colorful expressions that people use for the problems they encounter. One of my colleagues is fond of using the expression "pushing a rope" for a job being done in the most difficult way possible, when it might otherwise be quite easy. One of my other favorites expresses how some people like to be in charge, but never make decisions: "Running that meeting was like nailing Jell-o to a tree."

So what colorful expressions do you use or hear when on the job?

In the construction industry, especially when a book-smart civil engineer gets too picky on a how straight a sewer pipe installation is, the blue collar workers might say, "Sewage flows downhill and turds don't have eyes."

"herding cats" as in "Managing programmers is like herding cats."

"You can't polish a turd" is often used in reference to fixing up a bad application.
