50 Years of Stupid Grammar Advice. In the Chronicle of Higher Education, Geoff Pullum rails against Strunk's and White's Elements of Style. Jan Freeman also pummels the book in the Boston Globe.
Which grammar guide is most often recommended to college students nowadays? Remember those TV commercials telling us that nine out of ten doctors prefer such-and-such? What do "the majority" of Professors of English recommend to their students? Or is grammar advice mostly done online now? (which is where I usually go)
I tend to agree that Elements is so 20th century. If I want dated grammar and style advice I'll refer to the Bible.
