I've just posted early nominations for the American Dialect Society's words-of-the-year vote. It is the longest-running such vote anywhere, the only one not tied to commercial interests, and the word-of-the-year event up to which all others lead.

Ooooookay. Really, looking at these words IS a pretty fascinating way to review the year. Sort of a verbal photo album, like all those "The Year in Photographs" roundups that I find equally compelling.
