IIRC, in the book A Fan's Notes by Frederick Exley, there's a part where "gorp" is defined as being a person who is so obese that there is a kind of erotic splendor to their obesity. As a whole, I didn't like the book that much (I only read it because I had to for a literature course), but I found that part memorable.
When I looked up "gorp" in the OED, the definition I found there was "an abbrevation for 'good old raisins and peanuts'."
"Good ol' raisins and peanuts," eh? I remember eating a lot of gorp back in my girl scout days, but never though to question the name of this underwhelming snack. The "good ol' MnM's" we added were really the only parts that ever interested me...
